My favorite time of year is here! Seattle has been blustery the last few days and I am just loving it. All the leaves you see in my pictures are real authentic fall leaves collected right here in my beautiful Seattle neighborhood. The fall colors have been especially beautiful this year!
Here in Washington up north of Seattle in Skagit County (where I spent most of my childhood), they have a Fall Festival every first weekend in October. I have been going every year for a while now and I always enjoy it. You can get fresh apples, pumpkins, squash, corn, wine, and even oysters out at Taylor’s Shellfish. One of the farms that we never miss is Perkins Apple Orchard where we always make sure to pick up locally grown apples and some of their delicious apple wine. They always provide free tastings at the event. Yum!
Another product that we always make sure we grab a gallon of is the Skagit Fresh apple cider (pictured below in the bottles) which is produced locally in Skagit Valley by 3 local farmers. It is fresh and delicious and I love to go home and make hot apple cider with this amazing beverage. I look forward to this every year! I also will pick up a dozen of freshly made classic cake doughnuts to go along with this steaming beverage as an extra treat for myself. Orgasm in the mouth! I’m telling you!
Results? Terrible…..No, duh, it was mouthwatering of course!
One claim I have made over and over and will probably make again (Stay tuned folks!) is that essential oils make it much easier to get the flavor you want just a little bit faster. Just because it is so potent and concentrated. And with a high grade like doTERRA, you are getting amazing health benefits as well.
In addition, fresh squeezed orange juice and real maple syrup really punch up the flavor. You can use orange juice that you get from the store but it will never be the same in my mind. Dropping in a few drops of wild orange essential oil without a doubt helps bring out the orange taste even more.
I like to use the full gallon to make this recipe usually because I have family and friends I am sharing with but if not, it lasts great in the fridge and the flavor just gets better over time. Run to the fridge and heat up a mug.
This post is making me crave my own recipe…..unfortunately, my fridge is sans apple cider at the moment. Why do you ask? I have no idea. We don’t always make the wisest decisions in life.
One wise decision I am making is to give you this recipe. Serve up warm and snuggled in your favorite blanket to enjoy while binge-watching Netflix and watching the leaves flutter around outside. Awwww! That’s the life.
Essential Oil Hot Mulled Apple Cider
Ingredients
- 1 gallon fresh apple cider (local from a farm is best!)
- 2 oranges, freshly squeezed
- 1 lemon, freshly squeezed
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 10 drops doTERRA ginger essential oil*
- 10 drops doTERRA wild orange essential oil*
- 10 drops doTERRA clove essential oil*
- 5 drops doTERRA cassia essential oil*
- 4 drops doTERRA cinnamon bark essential oil*
- 12 allspice berries
Instructions
- Combine apple cider, maple syrup, orange juice, lemon juice and allspice berries to a large saucepan. Add the clove, ginger, wild orange, cassia, and cinnamon bark essential oil and simmer on medium for about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove allspice berries and serve warm with doughnuts. Enjoy!
Notes
- Since the essential oils are sensitive to high heat make sure that if you are going to bring the apple cider to a boil or simmer on high heat you add them after that process. With this drink, you really want to keep the healthy benefits of the essential oils that may die off from the heat.
