Hey, gals! All of the essential oils out there are amazing for our health and well-being but throughout my journey of using essential oils, there are a few that I believe have been truly beneficial to me, especially as a woman. And I am here to share them with you! (Because I am nice like that, and we women have to stick together!)
While there are many essential oils that can be used in addition to this list, these are some of the oils that I feel are most important for women to learn about and have in their collections.*
Feel free to click the names of the oils below to learn more about each one.
Clary Calm is a product that was developed for that time of the month, and believe me ladies we have all been there! We all experience our periods a little differently but for me, I know that I get a little crampy in my abdomen and back, and my moods get a little testy (okay, maybe a lot, future apologies to my husband.). Sometimes I get a little flushed and flustered. Clary Calm combines clary sage, lavender, and bergamot to provide that relaxing effect to our muscle tension. Just rub a tiny bit on your lower abdomen and back to get that relief your looking for. Also, this blend can also help regulate those monstrous moods we sometimes find ourselves in. Eek!
#2. Turmeric Essential Oil
When I found out doTERRA was releasing a turmeric essential oil, I was extremely excited. Turmeric is one of the healthiest and most beneficial spices we can put on and into our bodies, BUT to be honest can be such a pain in the ass to use, especially topically. Trying to put turmeric on your face, body, or hands can have a really unappealing outcome.
But ladies, we do not want that to stop us from using turmeric, which is why the essential oil can be such a godsend. Why?
- Antioxidants. Turmeric has antioxidant compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and certain antioxidants called curcuminoids, that can help protect the skin from free radicals. Tip: Add a drop or two to your morning tea, water, or under your tongue to receive the internal benefits.
- Skincare. The curcumin in turmeric is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, which can significantly assist with the negative effects of redness, acne, or uneven skin tone. Essential oil makes adding to your favorite DIY face mask or cream easier than ever. My favorite is honey, yogurt, and a few drops of turmeric!
#3. doTERRA Slim & Sassy Blend
What girl doesn’t want to be slim and sassy? I know I love my sassy side! Slim and Sassy is a metabolic blend that helps promote a healthy metabolism when taken internally. I like to add a few drops to my water or tea before I start eating in the morning. It can also be added to your water, just before a workout, to add an extra energy boost! If you don’t like the flavor, rub some on your abdomen a few times a day. The main ingredient is grapefruit and cinnamon which are both known for helping aid in smoother digestion. As we get older our metabolism starts to slow down; I always say start young to keep your metabolism healthy so you will not have as much of a struggle as you get on in years. Combine Slim and Sassy with a healthy diet to help reach your weight loss goals!
Ylang Ylang essential oil is derived from the star-shaped flowers of the tropical Ylang Ylang tree and is used extensively in making perfumes and aromatherapy. Not only does this oil have a sweet floral smell, but it can also help with relaxation. I put a few drops of Ylang Ylang in my bath and some Epsom salts for the ultimate relaxing unwinding session! If taken internally it can provide antioxidant support, which we girls are always looking for more of! Pomegranates, blueberries, goji berries…..anything to get those awesome antioxidants! Put some Ylang-Ylang in your water or on your tongue to achieve this benefit!
A lot of us ladies experience stress and anxiety these days. Whether we are spending long days in an office or trying to maintain a home, it can be taxing! The Past Tense blend was designed to promote feelings of relaxation and calm emotions. I personally like to use this blend for any headaches I get and believe me, headaches are a common friend of mine. (One of those friends you wish wouldn’t visit so often!) I just rub a little bit on my forehead and on my neck. The wintergreen and peppermint provide an amazing cooling relief that really tones down the pain and helps you forget about your nasty visitor.
Ginger has long been known for being a very helpful aid in digestion and nausea. The reason I choose this oil is because of how useful it is for nausea; especially with you pregnant gals out there! I really wish I had had this oil when I was pregnant with my daughters because it is so easy and accessible to use. I traveled a lot while I was pregnant and didn’t always have ginger on hand. The essential oil is easy to put a few drops in your morning tea or water, just to help ease nausea throughout the day. If you don’t like the taste of ginger you can rub a few drops on your stomach, the oil enters your bloodstream very quickly and can provide that relief you’re looking for!
#7. Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense has been used for centuries by royals and is known as the “king of oils.” It was often used to rejuvenate and help with imperfections in the skin. This is an oil that I use a lot! I have stretch marks on my breasts and stomach from having two kids so every night I rub a few drops of Frankincense on my abdomen and chest. It really helps with the appearance of stretch marks and scars. After I am done I will cup my hands over my nose and take a few breaths, as Frankincense makes you feel relaxed and at peace. Ahhh!!!
So often here in America as soon as we show signs of aging we run out and buy wrinkle creams and under-eye serums to reduce the appearance of our aging skin. My recommendation? Start before you show signs! In France, women start their daughters beautifying their skin as early as 15 years of age. No wonder the French are so youthful! Immortelle was designed as an anti-aging blend that has very rare oils including Helichrysum, Rose, and Sandalwood that help with revitalizing and nourishing the skin. I use it for bruises and my rosacea as well. Just rub some over your face, neck, and décolletage every night before moisturizing. Start beautifying your skin now before the signs of aging appear and your skin will thank you!!
Geranium oil has been cherished for centuries for its skin and hair beautifying benefits. Those ancient Egyptian ladies had it all figured out! Add Geranium oil to your daily haircare routine by adding a few drops to your daily shampoo. It can give your hair a radiant and healthy glow, plus, you’ll smell the wonderful aroma of Geranium essential oil on your hair throughout the day. One of Geranium essential oil’s key benefits is promoting the appearance of clear and healthy skin which is why it is one of my favorites to use for those massages that my husband is coaxed into giving. Also, a great addition to a luxurious bath night!
There are two main reasons Rosemary is a coveted oil in my collection. First, I am mildly obsessed with my hair being the healthiest it can possibly be. If you are hair-focused like me then Rosemary is the oil for you! Rosemary is known for revitalizing your hair and stimulating growth. Combine a few drops of Rosemary with argan oil and gently massage into clean damp hair for a few minutes. Not only does this help with the health of your hair but it will leave your scalp feeling invigorated.
Second, it’s a great pick-me-up! Rosemary has renewing properties that can be energizing and settling for the mind. If I need to study or focus on a project but I am feeling a bit sluggish, a couple of sniffs from the Rosemary bottle can be very uplifting. If you know you will be working at home in the same area for a while, add some drops to your diffuser and place it next to you. It will give you the clarity and focus that you so desire!
