It’s one of the biggest days of your life and you want everything to be perfect. Hey, we all hope our wedding day (and the days leading up to it) will turn out exactly like we dreamed, but we all know there can be hiccups along the way that make us wonder if we are even going to survive this special day. Below are some of our favorite essential oils + tips to make sure that you don’t just survive the wedding day but that you enjoy every moment of it.
While there are many essential oils that can be used in addition to this list, these are some of the oils that we feel are most important to have just before the big to learn about and have in their collection.*
Feel free to click the names of the oils below to learn more about each one.
Pre-Wedding Drinking and Hangovers
#1. doTERRA Past Tense Blend
Hangovers are a headache! For real. Our bodies usually become dehydrated because we forget to drink an equal amount of water compared to our favorite mixed drink. What happens when we become dehydrated is the brain starts to lose water so it shrinks pulling the brain from the skull and causing the pain receptors around your skull to go off! Hooray, the dreaded headache is born! Past Tense is a roller bottle made by doTERRA that contains wintergreen, peppermint, and lavender. The mint oils contain menthol that helps relax muscles and ease pain and lavender is a great anti-inflammatory. One tip: Rub a little bit of the oil right onto your temple, the cooling effect from the peppermint will help numb the pain in your head and help you get that headache off your mind. Pun intended!
#2. Lemon, Peppermint, and Hydration!
Lemon and peppermint are both great oils for getting back on your feet after a night of drinking. Lemon is uplifting but also helps cleanse toxins from your body more quickly. Peppermint can help alleviate that digestive upset that we get and also help perk us up. We all know that we need to be drinking plenty of water throughout the day to keep ourselves hydrated. Make sure you add a few drops of lemon essential oil to your water for a tasty boost but also to help cleanse your system throughout the day. Because brides, bridesmaids, and even grooms do not want to be feeling icky during the big day!
#3. doTERRA DigestZen Blend
Whether it be the night of endless drinking or one of the Vegas buffets that just didn’t sit quite well in the ol’ gastrointestinal tract, this is one blend you will not want to be without! Digestzen is a blend of peppermint, ginger, and fennel which are all great at soothing an upset or nauseous stomach. You can take digestzen internally or rub some on your abdomen after you eat. Better yet, rub some on your stomach before and after you eat a giant meal just to help make the digestive journey smoother!
Wedding Day!
#4. doTERRA Balance Blend
Even though our wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of our lives and should be the day when we shouldn’t have to worry about a thing. We still do… we overwhelm ourselves with worry and stress because we want everything to be perfect. Not just for us but we want to make a great impression on our guests! The Balance blend combines ho wood, chamomile, and blue tansy to help with anxious feelings while the spruce and frankincense help us feel balanced and at peace. Make sure to use this at the beginning of your morning and continue throughout the day just to make especially sure that you’re not losing your shit by the time the real important moment comes! Other great stress-relieving oils: Citrus Bliss, Peace, Elevation, and Serenity.
#5. Take a Breather!
You made it through the bachelor/bachelorette parties, through all the wedding prep, through the recital dinner, and to your big day without killing each other! Yay! Some people believe that if you can make it through the wedding day you will make it forever. I don’t know that it is that simple but remember, it is YOUR wedding day and you have every right to make it exactly how you want! It doesn’t matter if nit-picking Aunt Susie has an issue with your napkin holders, or if your cousin Gertrude doesn’t like the taste of the eclairs, or even if your hair is throwing a mutiny on top of your head, it is your day and you get to ENJOY it! If you need a break, take one, because guess what – everyone will wait! – let’s face it, the wedding can’t go anywhere without the two of you.
#6. Geranium + Sandalwood Essential Oil
Everyone wants to be glowing on their wedding day; that gorgeous, flowing hair and radiant, smooth skin. Geranium + Sandalwood are sure to help with exactly that – both oils promote clear, healthy skin and restore moisture to the hair. Add a couple of drops to your moisturizer and apply to the face, neck, and decolletage to keep your skin young and healthy. This is also an easy add-in for your shampoo and conditioner to increase the moisture and strength of your hair. As an added bonus, both of these oils are very calming to the body and will help mitigate stress on the wedding day!
#7. Appoint a Conversation Guardian
All important people have gatekeepers that regulate the access that people have to them. Today you are that important person, and you deserve to have someone to make sure that you get to talk to all the people you want to and that you don’t have to talk too long to those people you would rather not. This is an important position, they are literally in control of your sanity! As a bartender, I have been stuck many times behind a wedding bar listening to the stories of Great Uncle Cleo and you know what, as much as the bartender doesn’t want to listen to that, they are getting paid to do so; you are there to enjoy the day. Find someone who can be gentle, but firm, and redirect your guests and you, at times, so that the conversations keep flowing; ideally in a way that Cleo doesn’t even notice that he was sent to the bar instead of the bride. I promise this will make your day go smoother and make #5 all the more possible.
Honeymoon/Vacation
#8. doTERRA ClaryCalm Blend
I’m not saying that this will happen, but the honeymoon can be stressful! Whether it is losing the hotel keys, getting lost in some foreign city, or that moment where it sinks in that you are actually married now there may be times when you need mental or emotional relief! ClaryCalm was designed to help with the symptoms of ‘that time of the month’, but can be useful throughout the whole month to balance mood and emotions in both men and women. The full, floral aroma grounds the mind and definitely can help clear stress out of the mind. Conveniently, it comes in a roll-on bottle so it is easy to roll onto your palms and inhale deeply. Hellllllooooo calm…
#8. doTERRA On Guard Blend
Ok, there really isn’t anything worse than getting sick while on vacation. Going on vacation is about getting away from the problems of everyday life and the Honeymoon is especially one that you don’t want to be sick during. Have no fear! doTERRA’s On Guard Blend is here to save the day. This blend is designed to support healthy immune and respiratory function and protect against environmental threats. When you are headed into an unknown area or a place your body isn’t used to you definitely want to have On Guard with you. Simply place a drop in your mouth once a day (or if that is too intense you can rub it on the back of your neck) to give yourself a protective boost and up it to 1 drop 3 x a day if you start to feel a bug coming on.
#10. Ylang Ylang and Bergamot Essential Oil
These two essential oils just scream tropical vacation! Now, not every honeymoon will be in the tropics, but there is never a bad time to add a tropical element! Both Bergamot and Ylang Ylang are known to lift the mood and provide a calming atmosphere, additionally, they are great antioxidants and help to purify the skin. Hmm…if only I could think of a way to combine relaxation with the skin…yup! you got it…MASSAGE! Add a few drops of each of these to some fractionated coconut oil or some avocado oil and you have a delightful, relaxing massage blend! Take turns swapping massages with these oils and suddenly it won’t matter if your honeymoon is beachfront in Maui or in a shack in the middle of Nebraska; you will be in paradise either way!
Happy wedding season!
